RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRPs) have been implicated in posttranscriptional gene silencing (PTGS) and antiviral defense. An Arabidopsis RdRP (SDE1/SGS2) has been previously shown to be required for transgene-induced PTGS but has no general role in ...

Exploring plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses [PDF]
Plants are exposed to many stress factors, such as drought, high salinity or pathogens, which reduce the yield of the cultivated plants or affect the quality of the harvested products. Arabidopsis thaliana was used as a model plant to study the responses

A Quorum-Sensing-Induced Bacteriophage Defense Mechanism
ABSTRACT One of the key determinants of the size, composition, structure, and development of a microbial community is the predation pressure by bacteriophages. Accordingly, bacteria have evolved a battery of antiphage defense strategies. Since maintaining constantly elevated defenses is costly, we hypothesize that

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Resource gradients create energy trade‐offs in the inducible defense response of Paramecium aurelia
Ecological communities are structured by inter‐ and intraspecific interactions. The stability of communities is governed by the strength and number of species interactions.

Current Status of Defensins and Their Role in Innate and Adaptive Immunity [PDF]
Naturally occurring antimicrobial cationic polypeptides play a major role in innate and adaptive immunity. These polypeptides are found to be either linear and unstructured or structured through disulfide bonds.

Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

An amphibian chemical defense phenotype is inducible across life history stages
Inducible phenotypic responses to environmental variation are ubiquitous across the tree of life, but it remains an open question whether amphibian chemical defense phenotypes are inducible.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
