Forward induction and entry deterrence: an experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Dixit (Econ J 90:95–106, 1980) hypothesis that incumbents use investment in capacity to deter potential entrants has found little empirical support.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Juvenile Spider Mites Induce Salicylate Defenses, but Not Jasmonate Defenses, Unlike Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
When plants detect herbivores they strengthen their defenses. As a consequence, some herbivores evolved the means to suppress these defenses. Research on induction and suppression of plant defenses usually makes use of particular life stages of ...

Mechanical methods for induction of labour

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2019
Background Mechanical methods were the first methods developed to ripen the cervix and induce labour. During recent decades they have been substituted by pharmacological methods.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Protective coatings of building structures and pipelines for operation in the Arctic

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering
The article is devoted to the study of the efficiency of using insulating (protective) coatings of building structures and pipeline transport for their reliable and trouble-free operation in extreme conditions of the Arctic zone.

Rifampicin does not significantly affect the expression of Small heterodimer partner (SHP) in primary human hepatocytes

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2012
The small/short heterodimer partner (SHP, NR0B2) is a nuclear receptor corepressor lacking a DNA binding domain. SHP is induced by bile acid-activated farnesoid X receptor (FXR) resulting in CYP7A1 gene suppression. In contrast, Pregnane X receptor (PXR)

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Insights into Host Cell Modulation and Induction of New Cells by the Corn Smut Ustilago maydis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Many filamentous fungal pathogens induce drastic modulation of host cells causing abnormal infectious structures such as galls, or tumors that arise as a result of re-programming in the original developmental cell fate of a colonized host cell ...

Induction Experiences of Beginning Secondary Teachers in Solomon Islands

open access: yes, 2011
Research shows teacher induction programmes are crucial in supporting new teachers as they move into the profession. Widely implemented in different ways in many countries they have a shared purpose, which is to provide beginning teachers with an ...
