Hyperbolic surface subgroups of one-ended doubles of free groups

open access: yes, 2013
Gromov asked whether every one-ended word-hyperbolic group contains a hyperbolic surface group. We prove that every one-ended double of a free group has a hyperbolic surface subgroup if (1) the free group has rank two, or (2) every generator is used the ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Quantitative Control Approach for Wind Turbine Generators to Provide Fast Frequency Response with Guarantee of Rotor Security

open access: yes, 2017
Wind generation is expected to reach substantially higher levels of penetration in the near future. With the converter interface, the rotor inertia of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbine generator is effectively decoupled from the ...

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Operating of small wind power plants with induction generators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper describes different systems of small wind power plants with induction generators used in the Czech Republic. Problems of wind power plants running with induction generators are solved within partial target of the research project MSM ...

Generalized Induction of Kazhdan-Lusztig cells [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales de l'Institut Fourier, 2009
Following Lusztig, we consider a Coxeter group W together with a weight function. Geck showed that the Kazhdan-Lusztig cells of W are compatible with parabolic subgroups. In this paper, we generalize this argument to some subsets of W which may not be parabolic subgroups.
