New Perspective on Planar Inductive Sensors: Radio-Frequency Refractometry for Highly Sensitive Quantification of Magnetic Nanoparticles

open access: yesSensors, 2023
We demonstrate how resonant planar coils may be used as sensors to detect and quantify magnetic nanoparticles reliably. A coil’s resonant frequency depends on the adjacent materials’ magnetic permeability and electric permittivity.

Effect of pressure on the superconducting Tc of MgB2

open access: yes, 2001
Measurements of the superconducting transition temperature Tc have been performed by the inductive method on MgB2 at pressures up to 28 GPa. Tc decreases with applied pressure, exhibiting a cusp at about 9 GPa. We interpret the appearance of this anomaly

Probing magnetization dynamics of iron oxide nanoparticles using a point-probe magneto-optical method

open access: yesFrontiers in Nanotechnology, 2023
Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are promising as local heat generators for magnetic hyperthermia under AC magnetic fields. The heating efficacy of MNPs is determined by the AC hysteresis loop area, which in turn is affected by the dynamic magnetic ...

Penetration depth, multiband superconductivity, and absence of muon-induced perturbation in superconducting PrOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$

open access: yes, 2009
Transverse-field muon spin rotation ($\mu$SR) experiments in the heavy-fermion superconductor PrOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ ($T_{c}=1.85$ K) suggest that the superconducting penetration depth $\lambda(T)$ is temperature-independent at low temperatures, consistent ...

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Photospheric Electric Fields and Energy Fluxes in the Eruptive Active Region NOAA 11158 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
How much electromagnetic energy crosses the photosphere in evolving solar active regions? With the advent of high-cadence vector magnetic field observations, addressing this fundamental question has become tractable.

Feasibility and Tolerability of Performing Portable MRI for Neurological Disorders in an Outpatient Neurology Clinic: A Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...
