The Leeds Industrial Unit of Tribology

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 1970
THE CONCLUSIONS of the report ‘Lubrication (Tribology)’—better known as the Jost report— were meant to act as a bucket of cold water to bring industry round to the realisation that it was losing vast amounts of money annually due to various malpractices in the art of lubrication and the resulting consequences.

Tribology Problems in Process Industries

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1969
It is considered that the majority of problems in the field of tribology that are currently responsible for operating difficulties and loss of production in the process industries arise through lack of application of existing experience or the results of research, rather than in limitations of fundamental understanding.

Tribological design - The aerospace industry

1989
Abstract The tribology of both aero engines and airframes plays an important role in their operation and reliability in service. Often the tribology of a system influences a components ultimate life rather than its reliability. The primary requirement of a component such as a gear tooth is that it should not suffer immediate and complete failure such

Tribological design - The process industries

1989
In general, the process industry does not design its own machines, but has to rely on what is available from machine manufacturers. It is important that the results of operating experience are fed back to machine designers in order that enhanced reliability of future designs is obtained.

High Performance Computing of an Industrial Problem in Tribology

1999
In this work we present the vectorisation of a new complex numerical algorithm to simulate the lubricant behaviour in an industrial device issued from tribology. This real technological problem leads to the mathematical model of the thin film displacement of a fluid between a rigid plane and an elastic and loaded sphere.

Tribological design-The automotive industry

1989
Rapid and continuing change within the automotive industry demands continual improvement in the quality, performance and reliability of vehicles. At the same time, competitive forces demand shorter product cycle times and new organizational approaches to the design process.

Tribological design-The spacecraft industry

1989
Modern spacecraft abound with mechanisms where relative movement between contacting surfaces occurs. Abnormal performance of such mechanisms, arising from high friction or unexpected wear, can rapidly lead to loss of mechanism function; for critical items this can lead to the complete failure of the spacecraft mission.

Tribological design-The power generation industry

1989
Abstract Conventional power generation plant covers a very wide field, many of the machines being common to other engineering plant. The paper concentrates on those machines that are unique to power generation and outlines past and present problems with a tribological basis.

Tribological experiments in automobile industry

2017
