Deriving inertial response from a non-inertial PV system for frequency regulation

2012 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2012
As photovoltaic (PV) penetration is gaining its momentum in the recent past, grid codes will demand contribution by PV systems to frequency regulation. This paper presents an investigation into the frequency regulation aspect of photovoltaic systems. An inertial response from photovoltaic system is derived by making it to work away from MPPT point of ...

Inertial response of wind power plants: A comparison of frequency-based inertial control and stepwise inertial control

2016 North American Power Symposium (NAPS), 2016
The frequency regulation capability of a wind power plant plays an important role in enhancing frequency reliability especially in an isolated power system with high wind power penetration levels. A comparison of two types of inertial control methods, namely frequency-based inertial control (FBIC) and stepwise inertial control (SIC), is presented in ...

AUGMENTED FUZZY LOGIC INERTIAL RESPONSE FOR HYBRID MICROGRID

IET Conference Proceedings, 2021
Hybrid microgrids inertia controls have been dependent on rotating sources as reference for the frequency control for the network in the islanded mode. However, with the increasing share of static sources outnumbering the former type of generation, and the high R/X ratio of the interconnecting lines due to which proportional power sharing is hampered ...

Inertial water response dominates protein solvation dynamics

Chemical Physics Letters, 2019
Abstract Establishing the mechanism of protein folding and other physiological processes requires a detailed comprehension of protein-solvent interactions. The fastest protein solvation dynamics have not yet been thoroughly investigated due to challenges associated with controlling few-cycle laser pulses and identifying ideal model systems.

Inertial Response of Electrical Power Systems

2020 IEEE Electric Power and Energy Conference (EPEC), 2020
Following loss of generation events and during the period prior to the deployment of automatic generation control, the stabilization of system frequency above load shedding levels rests solely on the system inertia, self regulation, and governor response. This paper focuses on system inertia.

Inertially driven transient response in polymeric liquids

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2009
We report here a computational study, with inertial contributions included, of the time-dependent velocity and shear stress profiles following flow start-up from rest for a polymeric liquid. Earlier workers solved similar fluid-mechanical start-up problems with viscoelastic character represented by a single Maxwell element.

Inertial response of variable speed wind turbines

Electric Power Systems Research, 2006
Abstract The increasing penetration of variable speed wind turbines in the electricity grid will result in a reduction of the number of connected conventional power plants. This will lead to a reduction of inertia in the grid, as the rotational speed of a variable speed turbine and the grid are decoupled by a power electronic converter.

Inertial Effects in the Response of Viscous and Viscoelastic Fluids

Physical Review Letters, 2005
We consider the effect of inertia on the high frequency response of a general linear viscoelastic material to local deformations. We calculate the displacement response and correlation functions for points separated by a distance r. The effects of inertia and incompressibility lead to anticorrelations in the correlation or response functions, which ...

Stellar/inertial integrated guidance for responsive launch vehicles

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2012
Abstract Responsive space-lift is a new trend in space launches. It requires the guidance system of the launch vehicle to be easily prepared, precise, robust, and adaptive. The stellar/inertial integrated guidance system, which combines two distinct types of navigation data, has been successfully used for submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

Inertial Response to Wind

1982
The stress of the wind exerted over the sea surface is the prime driving force of circulation in the coastal ocean. Yet, as already pointed out in the previous chapter, wind action only affects directly through internal friction a surface layer usually much thinner than the total water column.
