Spinal infections may be local manifestations of systemic diseases, concomitantwithinfectionsinotherpartsofthe central nervous system, or be caused by direct spread from extraspinal sources. Patient demographics and their immune status play an important role when formulating the differential diagnosis of lesions affecting the discs and vertebral bodies.

Imaging in pancreatic infection
Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, 2003The most common cause of infection involving the pancreas is complicated pancreatitis. Infected necrosis, pancreatic abscess, and infection of pancreatic pseudocysts are seen. Diagnostic imaging, in particular, contrast-enhanced computed tomography, plays a large role in the identification of the complications seen in acute pancreatitis.

Imaging of Intracranial Infections
Seminars in Neurology, 2019Central nervous system (CNS) infections are a major source of morbidity and mortality despite the remarkable progress in prevention and treatment of infectious disease. Because of the difficulty of direct tissue sampling, imaging plays a crucial role in detecting, diagnosing, and monitoring the therapeutic response of CNS infections.

Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 1999
The prompt identification, localization and characterization of focal sites of infection in the patients with fever is a critical step in clinical management, particularly, when localizing symptoms are not present. Although the classic signs of inflammation are suitable to localize injury at superficial sites or in the extremities, inflammation of ...

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 2012
This article reviews the imaging and relevant clinical details of infection of the extradural spine. Spine infections are increasing in incidence and in frequency of diagnosis. They are clinically important despite their relative rarity, because they may be life-threatening, and because early diagnosis leads to improved outcomes.

Infection and inflammation imaging
Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 2014In a recent issue of the journal, Steinhoff K. et al. (2014) stated that Malviya G. et al. have described different tracer uptake in infected joints of the same patient tested with Tc-rituximab (anti-CD20-mAb) and Tc-adalimumab (anti-TNF-α-mAb). This sentence is misleading and requires clarification, in fact we never investigated and reported infection

Imaging of Odontogenic Infections
Radiologic Clinics of North America, 2018Odontogenic infections represent a common clinical problem in patients of all ages. The presence of teeth enables the direct spread of inflammatory products from dental caries, trauma, and/or periodontal disease into the maxilla and mandible. The radiographic changes seen depend on the type and duration of the inflammatory process and host body ...

Radionuclide Imaging of Infective Endocarditis
Cardiology Clinics, 2023Infective endocarditis (IE) is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis is crucial for adequate patient management. Due to difficulties in the diagnosis, a multidisciplinary discussion in addition to the integration of clinical signs, microbiology data, and imaging data is used.

Radionuclide imaging of spinal infections
European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, 2006The diagnosis of spinal infection, with or without implants, has been a challenge for physicians for many years. Spinal infections are now being recognised more frequently, owing to aging of the population and the increasing use of spinal-fusion surgery. The diagnosis in many cases is delayed, and this may result in permanent neurological damage or even

Extracardiac Imaging of Infective Endocarditis
Current Infectious Disease Reports, 2017This review analyzes recent studies evaluating the diagnostic and therapeutic impacts of systematic extracardiac imaging techniques in patients with suspected or proven infective endocarditis.Extracardiac imaging techniques are more and more frequently used to establish infective endocarditis (IE) diagnosis in doubtful situations.
