Characterization of Biological Resistance and Successful Drug Resistance Control in Medicine

open access: yesPathogens, 2019
It has now been a century that drug resistance has been getting worse in human infectious diseases medicine. A similar trend is observed in veterinary medicine and agriculture.

Infectious neuropathies

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2018
Infectious neuropathies are an important morbidity worldwide. These can be caused by viruses (HIV, HTLV, HBV, HCV, VZV) or bacteria (M. leprae, Borrelia Burgdorferi, Corinebacterium diphteriae). HIV infection, already pandemic, is at the origin of many and various peripheral neuropathies.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Applying the Wells-Riley equation to the risk of airborne infection in hospital environments: The importance of stochastic and proximity effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Although the Wells-Riley equation for airborne infection is used to estimate infection risk in a range of environments, researchers generally assume complete air mixing and don’t consider either the stochastic effects in a small population or the ...

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Transmission in Extended Family, Saudi Arabia, 2014

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2016
Risk factors for human-to-human transmission of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) are largely unknown. After MERS-CoV infections occurred in an extended family in Saudi Arabia in 2014, relatives were tested by using real-time ...

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Risk assessment and management of Banana streak viruses in Guadeloupe.Session 6. Oral 54 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Several species of Banana streak virus (BSV) occur in banana. They cause a wide range of symptoms on leaves, pseudostem and fruits, although the impact of infections on yield and fruit quality has never been properly assessed.
