Systemic Inflammatory Response Index Has a Value for the Early Diagnosis and Short‐Term Prognostic Assessment of Severe Pneumonia in the Elderly

open access: yesCanadian Respiratory Journal, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This article probed the value of systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) in the early diagnosis and short‐term prognostic assessment of severe pneumonia (SPM) in the elderly. First, 266 elderly patients with pneumonia were retrospectively included and allocated into SPM and N‐SPM groups as per APACHE‐II scores.

Successful Treatment of Lactobacillus rhamnosus Endocarditis With Intravenous Daptomycin: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Lactobacilli are Gram‐positive, facultatively aerobic, rod‐shaped bacteria that are a normal part of the human microbiota and rarely cause infections in immunocompetent hosts. Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus rhamnosus are the most common human pathogens within this genus and are also frequently used in probiotics.

A Case of Corynebacterium diphtheriae Native Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Infective Endocarditis Complicated by Shower Emboli

open access: yesCase Reports in Cardiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Infective endocarditis is a rare phenomenon that may have devastating consequences. While uncommon, the spectrum of causative organisms can include Corynebacterium species. Corynebacterium diphtheriae endocarditis bears a high potential for systemic complications and overall mortality. We present a case of mitral and tricuspid native valve endocarditis

Noninfectious Necrotizing Aortitis With Predominantly Neutrophilic Infiltrate

open access: yesCase Reports in Pathology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Aortitis can be either infectious or noninfectious, and cases of noninfectious aortitis are not well understood. Our study presents a case of noninfectious ascending aortitis in a relatively young, previously healthy man, characterized by a predominantly neutrophilic infiltrate on histopathological examination without an inciting microorganism.

Biofilm Formation, Virulence Traits, and Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles of Enterococcus faecalis in Layer Parent Stock in Bangladesh

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Enterococcus faecalis is an opportunistic pathogen of growing concern in both human and veterinary medicine due to its virulence traits, biofilm‐forming ability, and resistance to multiple antibiotics. This study was aimed at investigating the occurrence, virulence factors, biofilm formation, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of E.
