Severity‐Graded MRI‐Detected TMJ Effusion Is Associated With Pain and Dysfunction in Temporomandibular Disorder Patients

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
In patients with TMJ arthralgia, MRI‐detected joint effusion was graded from Grade 0 (no effusion) to Grade 2 (moderate‐to‐severe effusion) using T2‐weighted and proton density‐weighted images. Increasing effusion severity was associated with greater pain intensity and mandibular dysfunction.

Analysis of Muscle Fibre Orientation in the Human Medial and Lateral Pterygoid Muscles Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging: A Methodological Study

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
This study used diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) tractography to assess in vivo 3D muscle fibre orientation of the medial and lateral pterygoid muscles in ten healthy men. Scans were performed at simulated mandibular rest and 25‐mm open‐mouth positions. DTI tractography successfully visualised the internal fibre architecture. During mouth opening, marked

Virtual articulation using sequential mandibular intraoral scans and computational functional rotation reference determination—Proof‐of‐concept

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Virtual articulators require accurate spatial orientation of digital casts for meaningful occlusal analysis during prosthesis design. Current methods for establishing this orientation rely on facial scanning, cone‐beam computed tomography, electronic jaw tracking, or arbitrary population–based values. This proof‐of‐concept technique presents a

Would the Real Trait Sadism Please Stand Up? On the Factor Structure of Trait Sadism

open access: yesJournal of Personality, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective We analyzed the items of trait sadism measures to identify a coherent, hierarchical factor structure. Background Numerous models and measures purport to assess trait sadism. Some of these measures overlap to a limited extent only. Simultaneously, trait sadism measures show strong redundancies with measures of psychopathy.

Three‐Dimensional Scaffolds for Bone, Soft Tissue, and Periodontal Regeneration

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional scaffolds offer tissue‐specific control of architecture, mechanics, porosity, and functionalisation to improve bone, soft tissue, and periodontal regeneration. ABSTRACT The oral cavity presents three distinct regenerative challenges: restoration of alveolar bone volume and stability, augmentation of soft mucogingival tissues, and ...

Comparative Analysis of Three Vertebral Screw Placement Directions in Anterior Thoracolumbar Fracture Surgery: A Finite Element Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1464-1477, May 2025.
This study compares the biomechanical effects of three anterior fixation systems in thoracolumbar surgery—HXTL, NHXTL, and Medtronic's CD Horizon ANTERIOR. Finite element analysis evaluates stress and displacement across vertebral bodies and support structures under varying load conditions. Results indicate the HXTL system minimizes nail–rod stress yet

Pulling Down the Hierarchy

open access: yesPacific Philosophical Quarterly, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper is about the hierarchy view: that each word has infinitely many meanings, arranged into levels, with the level n meaning serving as its semantic value when it occurs embedded to degree n in indirect or attitude reporting verbs. Departing from the famous debates over the bare tenability of the hierarchy view, I focus on whether there

Periodontal considerations during orthodontic intrusion and extrusion in healthy and reduced periodontium

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract In patients with advanced periodontal disease, pathological tooth migration may occur, which may require subsequent orthodontic treatment for both aesthetic and functional purposes. When planning orthodontic treatment mechanics, intrusive or extrusive forces are frequently indicated.

Reviewing the benefits and clinical outcomes of oral fibroblasts over mesenchymal stem cells for repairing periodontal defects during or after orthodontic tooth movement

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Orthodontic therapy applies forces to teeth, causing an inflammatory reaction in the periodontal ligament. This is repaired by remodeling of the periodontium, allowing tooth displacement. Although orthodontic therapy is mostly initiated during childhood and adolescence, the number of adults seeking this treatment is increasing as our society's
