Chiari I Malformation: Review and Update of Current Treatment Options

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pathophysiology of Chiari malformation type I (CM‐I) is complex, involving structural abnormalities at the craniovertebral junction that result in herniation of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. In this study, we aim to present and evaluate current treatment options for CM‐I, with a focus on evidence‐based clinical ...

What Is the Pterygomandibular Raphe? A Confluence of Fasciae Rather Than a Discrete Structure

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pterygomandibular raphe (PMR) has traditionally been described as a fibrous or tendinous band connecting the bucinator (BM) and superior pharyngeal constrictor (SPCM) muscles. However, recent evidence has questioned its existence. This study aimed to reevaluate the anatomy of the pterygomandibular region by preserving fascial continuity ...

Anatomy of the Soft Palate and Its Role in Upper Airway Function: A Narrative Review

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The soft palate is a complex anatomical structure, located at the posterior aspect of the oral and nasal cavities, able to dynamically create valve closure of the nasal and the oral cavities. Its precise movement is critical for speech, swallowing, and respiration. Despite its functional importance, detailed characterization of its constituent

Double Transeptal Puncture for SAPIEN M3 Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement: Initial Experience, Indications, and Technique

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The SAPIEN M3 system has been recently approved for transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). The transeptal guide sheath is used to deploy the dock, which is completely released before inserting and deploying the M3 valve using the same femoral access, transeptal puncture (TSP) and guide sheath.

Multimodal modeling of the ictal onset zone in refractory insular epilepsy and seizure outcome of magnetic resonance‐guided laser interstitial therapy: A pediatric single‐center retrospective study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to evaluate seizure outcomes after magnetic resonance‐guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) in children with insular epilepsy and to assess how the extent of ablation overlaps with multimodal definitions of the ictal onset zone (IOZ).

A Pain in the Buttocks: Practice Article for Sonographically Imaging the Quadratus Femoris and Ischiofemoral Impingement

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
Hip external rotation can cause compression of the quadratus femoris (QF) between the ischial tuberosity and lesser trochanter of the femur, resulting in pain in the buttock, hip, and groin which can radiate down the leg. Ultrasound imaging can demonstrate dynamic impingement of the QF, including symptom provocation.

The Effect of Inferior Oblique Muscle Transposition in Primary and Secondary Inferior Oblique Muscle Overaction

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society, 2015
Purpose: To evaluate and compare the effect of transposition of inferior oblique muscle in patients with primary inferior oblique muscle overaction and secondary due to superior oblique muscle palsy. Methods: The present study included 41 patients (53 eyes), who appeared to have primary or secondary inferior oblique muscle overaction due to superior ...
