Electron microscopic study on overacting inferior oblique muscles

open access: yesKorean Journal of Ophthalmology, 1992
Overaction of the inferior oblique(IO) muscle is manifested by elevation of the adducted eye and from the clinical point of view there are two types of overaction. The primary type is of unknown cause, whereas the secondary type is usually related to the palsy of the ipsilateral superior oblique or contralateral superior rectus.

Osteoarthritis: Epidemiology, Diagnosis, and Treatment

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2026.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial degenerative joint disease and a leading cause of disability worldwide. This graphical abstract summarizes the epidemiology, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic approaches of OA. OA development is driven by aging, metabolic dysregulation, and mechanical stress, leading to progressive joint degeneration ...

The Effect of Inferior Oblique Muscle Transposition in Primary and Secondary Inferior Oblique Muscle Overaction

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society, 2015
Purpose: To evaluate and compare the effect of transposition of inferior oblique muscle in patients with primary inferior oblique muscle overaction and secondary due to superior oblique muscle palsy. Methods: The present study included 41 patients (53 eyes), who appeared to have primary or secondary inferior oblique muscle overaction due to superior ...

Muscle tendon elongation with bovine pericardium (Tutopatch®) in patients with Graves’ orbitopathy; a prospective, observational, multicentre study

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 1, Page e18-e27, February 2026.
Abstract Purpose Patients with severe ocular motility restriction and/or large angle strabismus due to Graves' orbitopathy (GO) cannot be adequately addressed with conventional strabismus surgery using large muscle recessions. Muscle tendon elongation surgery, using a spacer of bovine pericardium (Tutopatch®) has emerged as a valuable alternative.

Gene expression profiling of extraocular muscles in primary inferior oblique overaction. [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background This study investigates gene expression differences in primary inferior oblique overaction (IOOA) by performing transcriptome sequencing on extraocular muscles (EOMs) from patients with primary and secondary IOOA.

Focused Power Ultrasound Mediated Inferior Perirenal Adipose Tissue Modification Therapy for Essential Hypertension: A Pilot Study

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Perirenal adipose tissue (PRAT) contributes to the maintenance of elevated blood pressure through afferent nerves and serves as an important peripheral, modifiable target for hypertension management. This single‐center, prospective pilot trial assessed the feasibility and safety of a novel focused power ultrasound device for perirenal adipose ...

Adipose Composition Before and After Primary Aldosteronism Treatment Depends on Primary Aldosteronism Subtypes and Plasma Aldosterone Concentration Before the Treatment

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, Volume 27, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT The abdominal and ectopic fats increase after primary aldosteronism (PA) treatment in aldosterone‐producing adenoma (APA) but not idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA) has been reported. Additionally, the relationship of these fats to plasma aldosterone concentration remains unclear.

Apparent contralateral inferior oblique muscle overaction after unilateral inferior oblique muscle weakening procedures

open access: yesJournal of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, 1997
Unilateral inferior oblique muscle weakening surgical procedures often lead to the appearance of inferior oblique muscle overaction in the contralateral eye. The purpose of this study was to determine how different types of unilateral inferior oblique muscle procedures affect the apparent function of the inferior oblique muscle in the contralateral eye.
