Efficacy of Botulinum Toxin Injection in Treating Primary Inferior Oblique Overaction: A Retrospective Cohort Study

European Journal of Ophthalmology
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and short-term safety of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injection into the inferior oblique muscle for treating inferior oblique overaction (IOOA) in a pediatric cohort. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study

Myectomy Versus Anterior Transposition for Inferior Oblique Overaction

Journal of AAPOS, 2007
Inferior oblique overaction can be either secondary (as a sequela of ipsilateral superior oblique palsy) or primary (commonly associated with horizontal strabismus). Superior oblique underaction often coexists with both primary and secondary inferior oblique overaction.

Inferior Oblique Overaction: Anterior Transposition Versus Myectomy.

Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 2017
Purpose: To compare the efficacy of inferior oblique myectomy and anterior transposition for correcting inferior oblique overaction (IOOA). Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 56 patients with IOOA who had either myectomy or anterior transposition of the inferior ...

Treatment of Inferior Oblique Muscle Overaction With Myectomy or With Anterior Transposition

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Ophthalmology, 1996
This paper presents a comparative study of the effectiveness of myectomy and anterior transposition in the treatment of inferior oblique muscle overaction. We operated 160 patients with overaction of the inferior oblique muscle. Eighty patients (148 eyes)

Unilateral Surgery for Inferior Oblique Overaction

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1973
Records of 106 patients, who had undergone weakening surgery on only one eye with an inferior oblique overaction, were reviewed. A normally acting second inferioroblique developed significant overaction after unilateral weakening in about one third of the cases.

Bilateral inferior oblique myectomy for asymmetric primary inferior oblique overaction

Journal of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, 2008
To evaluate the effects of bilateral symmetric inferior oblique myectomy on the symmetry of versions of patients with bilateral asymmetric primary inferior oblique overaction.A prospective interventional study was performed on 32 consecutive patients with bilateral asymmetric inferior oblique overaction.

Structural Alterations in Overacting Inferior Oblique Muscles

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1980
Primary and secondary overacting inferior oblique muscles were examined by light and electron microscopy and compared to normal inferior oblique muscles. The most conspicuous light microscopic difference between primary overacting and normal muscles was the presence of granular fibers in overacting muscles that contained sarcoplasmic masses.

Response of Coexisting Underacting Superior Oblique and Overacting Inferior Oblique Muscles to Inferior Oblique Weakening

Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 1990
ABSTRACT One hundred twenty-six eyes with inferior oblique overaction and coexisting superior oblique underaction were retrospectively studied pre- and postoperatively. The data show that weakening the inferior oblique corrected the underaction of the superior oblique, and that overcorrection of the underacting superior oblique was unusual ...
