Airflow Characteristics of Empty Nose Syndrome: Insights From Patient‐Specific Computational Modeling of Airflow Distribution Patterns and Nasal Air‐Conditioning [PDF]

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investig Otolaryngol
Using patient‐specific computational fluid dynamics in 14 patients with empty nose syndrome (ENS), 10 subjects with nasal septal deviation, and five normal subjects, we found that ENS was not characterized by a single airflow pattern but by a heterogeneous spectrum of phenotypes that also occurred in non‐ENS subjects.
