Insecticide efficacy on ticks (Dermacentor spp.) – Case study from an infested territory in Transylvania, Romania

open access: yesActa Universitatis Sapientiae: Agriculture and Environment, 2021
Ticks can be a major concern for humans and animals alike through the transmission of various viral and bacterial diseases. Ticks have also developed tolerance to several active compounds due to intensive insecticide treatments.

Dermatobia hominis infestation [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1984
Summary A patient is reported who, after leaving Venezuela, developed some boils on the left upper limb inhabited by Dermatobia hominis larvae. The curious life-cycle of this tropical fly is described with some considerations about the diagnostic problem. A simple unreported way of larvae extraction is suggested.

Effective Defense of Aleppo Pine Against the Giant Scale Marchalina hellenica Through Ecophysiological and Metabolic Changes

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) is widely distributed in the Mediterranean region and in other areas of the world, where it has been introduced due to its adaptive capacity to xerothermic conditions. The giant pine scale Marchalina hellenica often infests

Treatment of scabies infestations [PDF]

open access: yesParasite, 2008
Scabies is an intensely pruritic disorder induced by an immune allergic response to infestation of the skin by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The biology of the mite, the clinical aspects and diagnosis of scabies infestations as well as the treatment of choice with 5% permethrin dermal cream and the use of scabicides based on other chemical substances are

Transcriptome analysis reveals a comprehensive insect resistance response mechanism in cotton to infestation by the phloem feeding insect Bemisia tabaci (whitefly)

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, 2016
Summary The whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) causes tremendous damage to cotton production worldwide. However, very limited information is available about how plants perceive and defend themselves from this destructive pest.

Meteorological variables and mosquito monitoring are good predictors for infestation trends of Aedes aegypti, the vector of dengue, chikungunya and Zika

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2017
BackgroundAedes aegypti is an important vector for arboviroses and widely distributed throughout the world. Climatic factors can influence vector population dynamics and, consequently, disease transmission.

JA‐Mediated Regulation of Amino Acid Homeostasis Adjusts Metabolic Flux and Enhances Spider Mite Tolerance via the SlJAZ8‐SlWRKY57‐SlAVT6s Module in Tomato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study elucidates a novel SlJAZ8‐SlWRKY57‐SlAVT6A/SlAVT6B module that effectively channels metabolic flux from primary to secondary metabolism, impacting plant growth, development, and resistance. Two novel vacuolar amino acid exporters, SlAVT6A and SlAVT6B, fine‐tunes trichomes, terpenes, and gibberellins, bolstering spider mite resistance.

Morphological characteristics of the antenna and its sensilla of three stored-product beetle species

open access: yesJournal of Basic and Applied Zoology
Background Antenna is one of the essential appendages in insects for behaviour and survival in the environment. In the present study, morphological characteristics of antenna and density of sensilla in the antennal flagellomere of three major stored ...

Biological parameters of larvae, nymphs, and engorged females of Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius, 1787) (Acari: Ixodidae) obtained from artificial and successive infestations on Oryctolagus cuniculus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lagomorpha: Ochotonidae) Parâmetros biológicos de larvas, ninfas e fêmeas ingurgitadas de Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius, 1787) (Acari:Ixodidae) obtidas de infestações artificiais e sucessivas em Oryctolagus cuniculus (Lagomorpha:Ochotonidae)

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2009
The development of acquired resistance to Amblyomma cajennense ticks was evaluated. A total of 18 rabbits were uniformly distributed into three groups named GL, GN, and GA that were submitted to three consecutive infestations with, respectively, larvae ...
