Morphology of rain water channelization in systematically varied model sandy soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We visualize the formation of fingered flow in dry model sandy soils under different raining conditions using a quasi-2d experimental set-up, and systematically determine the impact of soil grain diameter and surface wetting property on water ...

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Influence of vegetation types and ground cover on soil water infiltration capacity in a high-altitude páramo ecosystem

open access: yesACI Avances en Ciencias e Ingenierías, 2013
Mountain ecosystems are receiving increasing attention due to their role in the regulation and supply of water for a growing human population, a pattern that is especially important in high altitude ecosystems of the northern Andes (páramo ...

Estrogen treatment decreases matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 in autoimmune demyelinating disease through estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have a crucial function in migration of inflammatory cells into the central nervous system (CNS). Levels of MMP-9 are elevated in multiple sclerosis (MS) and predict the occurrence of new active lesions on magnetic ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

"Litter marks" around oil palm tree base indicating infiltration area of stemflow-induced water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The “litter marks” which has the dark color and shape like a circle was found around the oil palm tree base. These litter marks seem to be caused by the infiltration excess overland flow due to higher intensity of stemflow than the infiltration capacity ...

Tangki Septik Dan Peresapannya Sebagai Sistem Pembuangan Air Kotor Di Permukiman Rumah Tinggal Keluarga [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Every day, family residential neighborhoods discard the waste water that should be stored and processed. Most of waste water management system still does not meet the health requirements, it still use local waste water treatment systems (on-site) like ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

The Effects of Different Mulches on Temporal Changes on The Some Soil Physical Properties [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و مهندسی آبیاری, 2016
Application of mulches not only affects the physical and chemical properties of soil, but improves infiltration maintenance. In this study, evaluated during four month, the effects of wheat straw, maize straw, sawdust, leaves and superab A200 on the soil
