Atopic Dermatitis Host and Environment Model: Revisiting Therapeutic Options [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Atopic Dermatitis affects both children and adults and is a serious health concern in many countries. AD is a complex disease with host and environmental factors underlying its pathology. Its treatment is multidimensional reflecting the diverse nature of

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Inflammatory Burden Index (IBI) and Hemoglobin, Albumin, Lymphocyte, and Platelet (HALP) Score in Alzheimer's Disease: A Retrospective Comparative Study. [PDF]

open access: yesCureus
This study aimed to evaluate the differences between Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and controls in biochemistry and peripheral hemogram parameters neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, platelet, and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, lipid profile, inflammatory burden index (IBI), and hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score and the ...

Obese patients with a binge eating disorder have an unfavorable metabolic and inflammatory profile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
To evaluate whether obese patients with a binge eating disorder (BED) have an altered metabolic and inflammatory profile related to their eating behaviors compared with non-BED obese.A total of 115 White obese patients consecutively recruited underwent ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Crossroads between peripheral atherosclerosis, western-type diet and skeletal muscle pathophysiology: emphasis on apolipoprotein E deficiency and peripheral arterial disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory process that, in the presence of hyperlipidaemia, promotes the formation of atheromatous plaques in large vessels of the cardiovascular system.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Assessment of periodontal inflammatory burden and radiomorphometric indices in geriatric individuals in Turkey: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background Oral health in older adults is frequently compromised due to a higher prevalence of periodontal disease, tooth loss, and systemic conditions such as osteoporosis. Altough the association between periodontitis and osteoporosis has been explored,
