Impact of Inflow Ratio on a Double-Inflow Cavopulmonary Assist Device

open access: yesASAIO Journal
The Fontan circulation is a palliative treatment for univentricular heart disease but is prone to progressive hemodynamic failure. To address this, a novel cavopulmonary assist device (CPAD) with dual inlets from the superior and inferior caval veins was developed. This study examines how varying inflow ratios (IRs) affect the CPAD’

A 3D Human Neuron‐on‐Chip Platform to Monitor Neuronal Injury Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel 3D Neuron‐on‐Chip model that can maintain human PSC‐derived excitatory prefrontal cortex neurons in 3D hydrogels and can be used to monitor neuronal injury responses over time. Results show injury‐induced acute neuronal excitotoxicity, declining neuronal connectivity, and the activation of a neurodegenerative, SASP‐like ...

INNOVATIVE STRATEGY TO MINE FLOODED FIELDS

open access: yesГеотехнічна механіка
Currently, strategic mineral mining in Ukraine is restricted by various factors. One of them is the excessive water content of an open pit or its previous ‘wet’ temporary abandonment.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Bioprinting High‐Cell‐Density Cardiac Tissue Constructs With Sustained Contractile Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Contractile cardiomyocytes in 3D culture provide insights into the behavior of the heart. Combining a 3D bioprinting approach with a multi‐electrode array allows the development of the 3D culture to be monitored over time, and matured cultures allow the effect of drugs on cardiac function to be modelled, replicating effects seen in clinical application.

Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in Developing Countries – the Case of Southeast Europe

open access: yesEkonomski Vjesnik, 2013
Foreign direct investment is one of the most important forms of international capital flow. Developed countries play a key role in capital flows, mainly as investors but also as beneficiaries.

Effect of capital inflows on financial development in Ghana

open access: yesJurnal Perspektif Pembiayaan dan Pembangunan Daerah, 2019
The study examines the effect of capital inflows on financial development in Ghana. The study employs the Johansen and Juselius multivariate cointegration approach in analysing the interactions between the variables using annual data spanning 1970 to ...

Patient‐Derived 3D Heart‐On‐a‐Chip Model of Dilated Cardiomyopathy With Embedded Bead‐Based Mapping of Tissue Contractility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A heart‐on‐a‐chip model of dilated cardiomyopathy is developed from patient‐derived induced pluripotent stem cells. The model recapitulates key disease phenotypes and enables functional assessment through integrated bead‐based tracking and pillar deflection measurements.

CAPITAL FLOWS AND THEIR SECTORAL DESTINATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Oradea: Economic Science, 2012
Since 2003, New European Union Member States have made large capital inflows, which led to a credit crunch and recession. Whether they are foreign direct investment, or banking flows, capital inflows ultimately affect GDP, depending on how they are ...

Do managed exchange rates and monetary sterilization encourage capital inflows?

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Economies with exchange rate pegs generally attract higher capital inflows either through lower transaction costs of trade and finance, or by encouraging investors to exploit any interest differentials, or where foreign exchange (FX) interventions are ...
