Factors Influencing the Changes of Forest Cover (a Case Study on Sumatra Island) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In Indonesia, decreasing the forest cover or deforestation in 2000-2005 period had increased up to 1,09 million ha per year, and in Sumatera island alone the deforestationreached 0,27 million ha per year.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Factors influencing thyroidectomy complications.

open access: yesBrazilian journal of otorhinolaryngology, 2012
The postoperative outcome of thyroidectomies is related to factors concerning the patient, the thyroid disease, and the surgeon. To analyze a clinic's experience with thyroidectomy complications.historical cross-sectional cohort study. We reviewed the charts from 228 patients submitted to thyroidectomy, between 1991 and 2004.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Factors Influencing Fetal Growth

open access: yesAnnals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, 2003
Birth weight remains one of the most important measures we have of the health status of a population, and is a strong predictor of both neonatal mortality and morbidity. It reflects maternal nutritional status and fetal growth rates in the antenatal period.

Factors Influencing Immunization Status in Primary Care Clinics

open access: yes, 2002
Background and Objectives: National standards and goals for childhood immunization rates are well established. Yet, despite clear standards and goals, physicians do not achieve the desired rate (90%) for immunization coverage. This study examined factors

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Physical fitness status and associated determinants among Chinese children aged 9–12 years in Shandong province: a population-based cross-sectional study

open access: yesScientific Reports
Children’s physical fitness is a critical determinant of lifelong health, yet comprehensive investigations into its multi-level influencing factors remain limited, particularly in developing regions.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
