Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Influenza Virus A (H10N7) in Chickens and Poultry Abattoir Workers, Australia

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2012
In March 2010, an outbreak of low pathogenicity avian influenza A (H10N7) occurred on a chicken farm in Australia. After processing clinically normal birds from the farm, 7 abattoir workers reported conjunctivitis and minor upper respiratory tract ...

Global mortality associated with seasonal influenza epidemics: New burden estimates and predictors from the GLaMOR Project

open access: yesJournal of Global Health, 2019
Background Until recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated the annual mortality burden of influenza to be 250 000 to 500 000 all-cause deaths globally; however, a 2017 study indicated a substantially higher mortality burden, at 290 000-650 ...

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.

Hemagglutinin Receptor Binding of a Human Isolate of Influenza A(H10N8) Virus

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2015
Three cases of influenza A(H10N8) virus infection in humans have been reported; 2 of these infected persons died. Characterization of the receptor binding pattern of H10 hemagglutinin from avian and human isolates showed that both interact weakly with ...

Spleen‐Targeting Biomimetic Hybrid Nanocarriers for Systemic Immune Reprogramming in Colitis: RBC Membrane Vesicle‐Fused Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A spleen‐targeting hybrid nanoplatform (RBCMV‐LNP‐RP) harnessing erythrophagocytosis mimics senescent red blood cell clearance to achieve spleen‐specific delivery of rapamycin. This biomimetic system enables selective accumulation in splenic macrophages, orchestrating systemic immune reprogramming and promoting mucosal healing in an inflammatory bowel ...

Oseltamivir Prescribing in Pharmacy-Benefits Database, United States, 2004–2005

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
We reviewed information from a US pharmacy benefits manager database from 2004 through 2005 during periods with little influenza activity. We calculated rates of oseltamivir prescriptions to enrollees. Prescription rates increased significantly from 27.3/

Programmable DNA‐Peptide Hybrid Nanostructures for Potent Neutralization of Multiple Influenza a Virus Subtypes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent antiviral platform based on honeycomb‐shaped DNA nanostructures (HC–Urumin) is developed to enhance the potency and breadth of the host defense peptide Urumin. Through spatially patterned trimeric presentation, HC–Urumin disrupts influenza A virus entry, improves cell viability, and reduces disease severity in vivo‐offering a modular and ...
