Cardiomyocyte‐Enriched USP20 Ameliorates Pathological Cardiac Hypertrophy by Targeting STAT3 Deubiquitination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cardiomyocyte‐enriched USP20 regulates the K63‐linked ubiquitination of STAT3, and the cardiomyocyte‐specific USP20‐STAT3‐CARM1 axis exerts a protective role in cardiac hypertrophy. Targeting USP20 through cardiac‐specific gene therapy presents a promising strategy for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy.

Acute Encephalopathy Associated with Influenza A Infection in Adults

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2010
We report acute encephalopathy associated with influenza A infection in 3 adults. We detected high cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma concentrations of CXCL8/IL-8 and CCL2/MCP-1 (CSF/plasma ratios >3), and interleukin-6, CXCL10/IP-10, but no evidence ...

A stochastic model for the evolution of the influenza virus [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Consider a birth and death chain to model the number of types of a given virus. Each type gives birth to a new type at rate $\lambda$ and dies at rate 1. Each type is also assigned a fitness. When a death occurs either the least fit type dies (with probability $1-r$) or we kill a type at random (with probability $r$).

Influenza virus genetics

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 2000
Significant progress has been made in understanding the process of influenza A virus replication in cell culture; however, much less is known about the genetic control of virus-host interactions in disease. This review provides an overview of the genetic analysis of influenza virus biology.

The effectiveness of national influenza vaccination policies for at-risk populations over 5 seasons in a Scottish general practice.

open access: yes, 2008
AIM: To determine the effectiveness of serial influenza vaccination. SCOPE: Studied in a Scottish GP population, the overall seroresponse rate increased with annual influenza vaccinations and after 5 years it increased from 45.1% to 93.3% for influenza ...

Adducin‐1 Facilitates Influenza Virus Endosomal Trafficking and Uncoating by Regulating Branched Actin Dynamics and Myosin IIB Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel mechanism is unveiled by which ADD1, acting as a molecular switch, coordinates actin branch dynamics and the transport of endocytic viruses and cargoes. Phosphorylation of ADD1 at Ser726 reduces actin branch density, enhancing endosome fusion and attachment to microtubules.

Magnetic‐Guided Delivery of Antisense Oligonucleotides for Targeted Transduction in Multiple Retinal Explant and Organoid Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetic field‐guided MNP@ATR‐ASO nanocomplexes facilitate the targeted delivery of ASOs to ganglion cells or photoreceptors within retinal explants, thereby enhancing the efficacy of ASOs in correcting pre‐mRNA splicing abnormalities. Furthermore, the nanocomplexes improve ASO penetration and delivery in human retinal and inner ear organoid models ...

AI4AI: Quantitative Methods for Classifying Host Species from Avian Influenza DNA Sequence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Avian Influenza breakouts cause millions of dollars in damage each year globally, especially in Asian countries such as China and South Korea. The impact magnitude of a breakout directly correlates to time required to fully understand the influenza virus, particularly the interspecies pathogenicity.

Estimates of the reproduction numbers of Spanish influenza using morbidity data.

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: There have been several studies of the transmissibility of the 1918 (Spanish) influenza virus, which has attributed to >20 million deaths.
