Male C57BL/6 mice were switched from a high‐sugar/high‐fat diet to a control diet with or without free‐choice 10% ethanol. The switch reshaped the cecal microbiota and metabolome (alpha diversity increased; polyamines and selected bile acids decreased) and reduced colonic barrier markers.
