Influenza Vaccine Progress [PDF]

open access: yesHospital Pharmacy, 2013
I have devoted several Hospital Pharmacy editorials1-4 to the safety and ethical concerns of vaccine use. I reported on a rigorous analysis5 that raised questions regarding the evidence for effectiveness of the present generation of influenza vaccines in the elderly and those at risk for medical complications.

The Role of miRNAs in Chicken Immune Regulation and Prospects for Disease‐Resistant Breeding

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
A schematic workflow illustrating the screening of disease‐resistant miRNAs and the generation of miRNA‐based disease‐resistant chickens via PGC‐mediated germline genome editing. ABSTRACT MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as pivotal regulators of the immune system, playing a decisive role in shaping disease resistance in chicken.

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.

Models for predicting the evolution of influenza to inform vaccine strain selection

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2018
Influenza vaccine composition is reviewed before every flu season because influenza viruses constantly evolve through antigenic changes. To inform vaccine updates, laboratories that contribute to the World Health Organization Global Influenza ...

Influenza vaccine efficacy [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2015
I am writing in response to a recent news article[1][1] published in CMAJ . The lack of efficacy of this year’s vaccine preparation is often used as an argument against vaccination. Although the match between the vaccine H3N2 strain and the circulating H3N2 wild-type may not be optimum, we ...

Efficacy, safety and cost‐effectiveness of CAR‐T therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
CAR T‐cells demonstrate high efficacy in blood cancers, including ALL, MM and DLBCL. Innovations target solid tumours despite challenges such as antigen escape. Combination therapies enhance the delivery and infiltration of CAR T cells. Toxicity, cost and resistance remain major barriers to clinical use.

Development of stable influenza vaccine powder formulations: Challenges and possibilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Influenza vaccination represents the cornerstone of influenza prevention. However, today all influenza vaccines are formulated as liquids that are unstable at ambient temperatures and have to be stored and distributed under refrigeration.

Development of Universal Influenza Vaccines Targeting Conserved Viral Proteins

open access: yesVaccines, 2019
Vaccination is still the most efficient way to prevent an infection with influenza viruses. Nevertheless, existing commercial vaccines face serious limitations such as availability during epidemic outbreaks and their efficacy. Existing seasonal influenza
