Automated Information Extraction
2014Chapter 1 identified automated information extraction (also known as computational content analysis or media-mining) as the first area of Computational Social Science. In this chapter takes a close look at this area, beginning with roots in linguistics. Computational text mining has been the main application of this area of CSS, but audio, imagery, and

Information Extraction Grammars
2015Formal grammars are extensively used to represent patterns in Information Extraction, but they do not permit the use of several types of features. Finite-state transducers, which are based on regular grammars, solve this issue, but they have other disadvantages such as the lack of expressiveness and the rigid matching priority.

Inferential Information Extraction
1999This paper is concerned with an outlook on information extraction (IE) that is steeped to a large extent in the traditional semantic notion of inferential reasoning. We make the case for a continued presence of inferential methods in IE, despite the ongoing trend towards simpler extraction processing models.
