Forecast verification using information and noise
Abstract Numerical weather prediction (NWP) centres evaluate forecast quality using statistical assessments of error and skill, commonly referred to as scores. Traditional forecast verification relies on metrics such as root‐mean‐squared error, anomaly correlation coefficient, Brier score, and so forth.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Speech Enhancement Based on Unidirectional Interactive Noise Modeling Assistance
It has been demonstrated that interactive speech and noise modeling outperforms traditional speech modeling-only methods for speech enhancement (SE). With a dual-branch topology that simultaneously predicts target speech and noise signals and employs ...

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Noise-induced maximization of integrated information in FitzHugh-Nagumo networks
Increasing evidence suggests that consciousness is linked to a system's ability to integrate information. Integrated information measures how much information a system holds beyond the sum of its independent parts. In this study, we explore how noise can
