Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The Information Improving Channel of Exchange Rate Intervention: How Do Official Announcements Work? [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies the relationship between official announcements and the effectiveness of foreign exchange interventions in a noisy rational expectations equilibrium model. We show that when heterogeneously informed traders have inaccurate information,

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

One Gold, Two Currencies: Price Discovery between Spot Exchange Rate and Implied Exchange Rate Derived from Futures

open access: yes, 2013
In this study, we investigate the relationship between spot and implied futures exchange rate between U.S. Dollar (USD) and New Taiwan Dollar (NTD). We are the first to discuss such relationship because only the characteristics of NTD Gold Futures (TGF ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The Information Content of German Discount Rate Changes [PDF]

open access: yes
Discount rate changes always receive considerable attention in financial markets. Two hypotheses compete to explain financial market reactions: the direct ‘borrowing cost effect’ and the announcement effect.

Bounds on the Information Rate of Intersymbol Interference Channels Based on Mismatched Receivers

open access: yes, 2012
We consider the problem of bounding the information rate of intersymbol interference channels via simulation-based algorithms. The adopted approach, which is based on a general class of reduced-complexity receivers that includes several previously ...

Mutual Information and Quantum Discord in Quantum State Discrimination with a Fixed Rate of Inconclusive Outcomes

open access: yes, 2021
We studied the mutual information and quantum discord that Alice and Bob share when Bob implements a discrimination with a fixed rate of inconclusive outcomes (FRIO) onto two pure non-orthogonal quantum states, generated with arbitrary a priori ...

Faster Spiral: Low-Communication, High-Rate Private Information Retrieval

open access: yesCryptography
Private information retrieval (PIR) enables a client to retrieve a specific element from a server’s database without disclosing the index that was queried. This work introduces three improvements to the efficient single-server PIR protocol Spiral.
