Predicting the Future Burden of Renal Replacement Therapy in Türkiye Using National Registry Data and Comparative Modeling Approaches

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic kidney disease is a growing public health problem worldwide, and the number of patients requiring renal replacement therapy is steadily increasing. Türkiye has experienced a similar rise in both the incidence and prevalence of renal replacement therapy over the past decades; however, national‐level projections of future ...

Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Explained by the Free Energy Principle

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
According to the free energy principle, all sentient beings strive to minimize surprise or, in other words, an information-theoretical quantity called variational free energy. Consequently, psychosocial “stress” can be redefined as a state of “heightened

Cost Minimizing Online Algorithms for Energy Storage Management with Worst-case Guarantee

open access: yes, 2016
The fluctuations of electricity prices in demand response schemes and intermittency of renewable energy supplies necessitate the adoption of energy storage in microgrids.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

Representing uncertainty and imprecision in machine learning: A survey on belief functions

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Computer and Information Sciences
Uncertainty and imprecision accompany the world we live in and occur in almost every event. How to better interpret and manage uncertainty and imprecision play a vital role in machine learning (ML).

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Technical note: Including hydrologic impact definition in climate projection uncertainty partitioning: a case study of the Central American mid-summer drought [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences
The Central American mid-summer drought (MSD) is a defining precipitation pattern within the regional hydrologic system linked to water and food security. Past changes and future projections in the MSD show a strong sensitivity to how the MSD is defined.
