Designing the Visualization of Information

International Journal of Image and Graphics, 2015
The construction of an artifact to visually represent information is usually required by Information Visualization research projects. The end product of design science research is also an artifact and therefore it can be argued that design science research is an appropriate research paradigm for conducting Information Visualization research.

Information visualization and/as enunciation

Journal of Documentation, 2017
Purpose A Recent work in information studies re-engages with theories of subject enunciation first developed in the work of twentieth century structuralist and post-structuralist critics. To date this work has not been extended to the analysis of data visualizations.

Dynamic information visualization

ACM SIGMOD Record, 1996
Dynamic queries constitute a very powerful mechanism for information visualization; some universe of data is visualized, and this visualization is modified on-the-fly as users modify the range of interest within the domains of the various attributes of the visualized information.

On the Representation of Visual Information

2001
Loss of information in images undergoing fine-to-coarse image transformations is analized by using an approach based on the theory of irreversible transformations. It is shown that entropy variation along scales can be used to characterize basic, low-level information and to gauge essential perceptual components of the image, such as shape and texture.

Biomedical Information Visualization

2007
The ongoing developments in the fields of molecular biology, genetics, and medical sciences have recently generated an explosion of information collected from living organisms. For the scientist who analyzes these huge amounts of data, information visualization can be a very useful tool.

Visual pigments and the acquisition of visual information

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1989
ABSTRACT All the information available to the brain for the interpretation of the visual scene comes from the number of photons absorbed by a very limited number of photoreceptor types which are characterized by their spectral sensitivity.

Developing calendar visualizers for the information visualizer

Proceedings of the 7th annual ACM symposium on User interface software and technology - UIST '94, 1994
The increasing mass of information confronting a business or an individual have created a demand for information management applications. Time-based information, in particular, is an important part of many information access tasks. This paper explores how to use 3D graphics and interactive animation to design and implement visualizers that improve ...

Visualization schemas for flexible information visualization

IEEE Symposium on Information Visualization, 2002. INFOVIS 2002., 2003
Relational databases provide significant flexibility to organize, store, and manipulate an infinite variety of complex data collections. This flexibility is enabled by the concept of relational data schemas, which allow data owners to easily design custom databases according to their unique needs. However, user interfaces and information visualizations

Visual information seeking

Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, 2014
The present study reports on the information seeking processes in a visual context, referred to throughout as visual information seeking. This study synthesizes research throughout different, yet complementary, areas, each capable of contributing findings and understanding to visual information seeking.

A vision for information visualization in information science

Proceedings of the 2011 iConference, 2011
This paper presents the case for Information Visualization (IV) to be a central, integrated component of study in Information Science. We summarize the current state of IV within iSchools, the market demand for IV skills, the intellectual contributions of IV to the field of Information Science and the potential intellectual contributions of Information
