Seasonal pattern in parasite infracommunities of Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus and Hoplias malabaricus (Actinopterygii: Erythrinidae) from the Brazilian Amazon [PDF]

open access: yesActa Parasitologica, 2016
AbstractThe present study investigated the effects of seasonal variation in parasites infracommunities of Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus and Hoplias malabaricus from a tributary of Amazon River. For H. unitaeniatus and H. malabaricus, 11 parasite species were similar, and greatest parasite richness occurred during the rainy season.

Geographic variation in composition of metazoan parasite infracommunities in Galaxias maculatus Jenyns 1842 (Osmeriformes: Galaxiidae) in southern Chile (38-47° S)

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Historia Natural, 2020
Galaxias maculatus is an abundant freshwater fish species in Chilean continental waters where it plays important ecological functions, yet few parasitological records of this species exist in Chile and all of them cover a very limited geographic range ...

Diversity of ectoparasitic bat flies (Diptera, Hippoboscoidea) in inter-Andean valleys: evaluating interactions in the largest inter-Andean basin of Colombia [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys
Flies belonging to the families Streblidae and Nycteribiidae are highly specialized arthropods that feed on the blood of bats. Their morphology varies and has adapted throughout their coevolutionary history with hosts. Bat flies are often associated with

Host body microcosm and ectoparasite infracommunities: arthropod ectoparasites are not spatially segregated [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology, 2012
SUMMARYWe studied the distribution of ectoparasite species (an ixodid tick, a chigger mite, 7 mesostigmate mites, 5 fleas and 3 lice) on bodies of 5 species of rodent hosts from the marshlands in Argentina to establish whether arthropod ectoparasites are segregated across body parts of the same host individual.

Helminth communities of two green frogs (Rana perezi and Rana saharica) from both shores of the Alboran Sea

open access: yesParasite, 2006
The helminth communities of two populations of green frogs from both shores of the Alborán Sea (Western Mediterranean) were studied. Of the 79 frogs examined for helminths, 39 individuals of the species Rana saharica were collected from Bab-Taza (Morocco)

Human Impact on the Composition of Small-Intestine Helminth Infracommunities in Canine Mesocarnivores, with a Special Focus on Echinococcus multilocularis

open access: yesParasitologia
Estimating the human impact on parasites in wildlife is essential to create efficient strategies to control diseases and improve public health. This study assessed the human influence on the parasite burden of the two commonest canine mesocarnivores, the

Parasite communities of icefish (Chionodraco hamatus) in the Ross Sea (Antarctica): influence of the host sex on the helminth infracommunity structure.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Parasite communities of Chionodraco hamatus were investigated from Terra Nova Bay (Ross Sea, Antarctica) during host spawning time. Special attention was given to helminth infracommunities and effect of host sex on its structure.

Helminths of white stork Ciconia ciconia in north-eastern Poland [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The aim of the study was to determine the structure of helminth communities of White Stork in north-eastern Poland in the years 2015–2018. The study material comprised 61 White Storks Ciconia ciconia from within the borders of Biebrza National Park ...

Competition from sea to mountain: Interactions and aggregation in low-diversity monogenean and endohelminth communities in twospot livebearer Pseudoxiphophorus bimaculatus (Teleostei: Poeciliidae) populations in a neotropical river. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2020
The results of this work suggest that interspecific competition can occur in species‐poor, nonsaturated communities among specialist dominant species. Our analyses suggest also that aggregation is an important factor to determine local richness of parasites in fish populations and that intraspecific aggregation allows the coexistence of species in the ...

Helminths of sigmodontine rodents in an agroforestry mosaic in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest: Patterns and processes of the metacommunity structure [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2022
Phylogenetically or taxonomically related hosts may harbour similar parasite communities due to phylogenetic conservatism. In addition, host attributes may favour their exposure to parasites.
