An infrared search for primeval galaxies

1994
We present early results of a near-infrared search for Primeval Galaxies (PGs), i.e., galaxies forming the bulk of their stars at high redshift. These results are compared with some theoretical expectations on the surface density of the PGs.

Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

1994
We report K band spectra of fourteen ultraluminous (LIR ≥ 1012L⊙) galaxies from the IRAS Extended Bright Galaxy Sample (EBGS) and ten less luminous EBGS galaxies. For the lower luminosity systems, good correlations are found between the H2 v=1-0S(1) and far-infrared (FIR) fluxes, and Brγ and FIR fluxes.

Infrared activity of galaxies

1993
A summary of the main topics covered in the four lectures that I gave during the Dublin Summer School on “Central Activity in Galaxies” follows. The school was organized in September 1990 under the auspices of the European Astrophysics Doctoral Network.

Galaxies in the Infrared

1986
In this paper we review IRAS studies of galaxies and we attempt to systematically present the new insights that have resulted from these studies.
