Effective method for fusing infrared and visible images

Journal of Electronic Imaging, 2021
Recently, deep learning has become a rapidly developing tool in the field of image fusion. An innovative image fusion method for fusing infrared images and visible-light images is proposed. The backbone network is an autoencoder. Different from previous autoencoders, the information extraction capability of the encoder is enhanced, and the ability to ...

A comparative study on fusion of visible and infrared images

2018 26th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2018
In this paper, principal component analysis (PCA), laplacian pyramid (LP), discrete wavelet transform (DWT), non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT), Bayesian PCA (BPCA), and non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) methods are compared in order to obtain a single informative image from visible and thermal images.

Iterative Method for Fusion of Infrared and Visible Images

2018 9th International Symposium on Telecommunications (IST), 2018
This paper proposes a novel fusion method for visible and infrared images. The infrared and visible samples are obtained by a sampling pattern such as star and spiral. Then, the samples are fused according to fusion rules. Finally, the proposed method is applied to fuse the infrared and visible samples.

Multispectral visible and infrared imaging for face recognition

2008 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshops, 2008
Multispectral imaging in the visible and near infrared spectra helps reduce color variations in the face due to changes in illumination source types and directions. Thermal infrared imaging provides useful signatures of the face that is insensitive to ambient lighting through the measurement of heat energy radiated from the object.

Photosensitive element for an infrared-to-visible image converter

Applied Optics, 1995
We show that gels can be used to record images formed by IR radiation (in the 10.6-µm wavelength) and then be played back in the visible by a dark-background-illumination technique. The recording process is transient.

Research on image fusion for visible and infrared images

IEEE 2011 10th International Conference on Electronic Measurement & Instruments, 2011
According to study on the definition of information fusion and the analysis about the nature of image fusion, the image fusion method is divided into spatial domain and frequency domain. By analyzing and comparing the performance of the both two, the advantages and prospects of the latter are confirmed.

Fusion of Infrared and Visible Images for Face Recognition

2004
A number of studies have demonstrated that infrared (IR) imagery offers a promising alternative to visible imagery due to it’s insensitive to variations in face appearance caused by illumination changes. IR, however, has other limitations including that it is opaque to glass.

Development of a new infrared imaging system: an infrared image superimposed on the visible image

Proceedings of the 20th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. Vol.20 Biomedical Engineering Towards the Year 2000 and Beyond (Cat. No.98CH36286), 2002
The infrared imaging, especially far infrared thermography, is a typical non-invasive measurement method in clinical medicine. However, the applications have been used mainly in clinical testing laboratory, and not used in outpatient clinics or operation rooms with on-line mode.

Infrared and Visible Image Registration Based on Hypercolumns

2017
Image registration is a challenging and critical task in computer vision and image processing. As the typical multi-modal image, infrared and visible image have greatly difference in gray scale, which makes the registration method based on hand-crafted features have a low accuracy. In this paper, we introduce a method based on hypercolumns and matching
