Application of X-ray stress measurement for residual stress analysis by inherent strain method - Comparison of cosα and sin2Ψ method-

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2017
Most cold forming processes are perceived as simple surface treatments without a heating process and are widely used to improve the fatigue strength of various engineering components.

Anisotropic alteration of scleral birefringence to uniaxial mechanical strain. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between scleral mechanical properties, its birefringence, and the anisotropy of birefringence alteration in respect of the direction of the strain by using PS-OCT. METHODS: The scleral birefringence of thirty-nine

A Curved Plate-Flattening Method to Construct the Membrane Strain Distribution

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
The surface-flattening process has many applications in industries such as shipbuilding. Curved surfaces in the industry are usually formed from flat surfaces, so the target surface needs to be flattened to obtain its corresponding initial shape.

Distribution of Inherent Strain Generated in Butt Joint.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series A, 2000
Measurements of inherent strain generated in a butt joint and a bead on plate have been made by the sequential removal of layers. It is shown from experiments that the distribution of inherent strain in a bead on plate is almost the same as one in a butt joint.

Dominant factors and quantification of Tendon Force in welded structural materials (Development of accuracy management system for high quality construction in welded structures on the basis of advanced theory of inherent strain)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
Tendon Force is an integral value of inherent stress associated with inherent strain, which is the root cause of welding-induced longitudinal residual stress, shrinkage and bending distortion.

Assembling a database of inherent strain for simplified distortion analysis in multi-layer and multi-pass welding of heavy section plate (Development of accuracy management system for high quality construction in welded structures on the basis of advanced theory of inherent strain)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
In this paper, a database of the identically-distributed inherent strain within mechanical melting zone is developed and then applied for simplified distortion analysis in multi-layer and multi-pass welding of heavy section plate.

Dominant parameter of weld angular distortion in structural materials based on theory of inherent strain (Development of accuracy management system for high quality construction in welded structures on the basis of advanced theory of inherent strain)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
In this paper, a dominant parameter of weld angular distortion is discussed based on the identically-distributed inherent strain within mechanical melting zone, which is customized for quantifying and coordinately managing the weld angular distortion ...

Influence of different Processing Parameter on distortion and Residual Stress of Inconel 718 Alloys Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research
Anstract Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is one of additive manufacturing techniques which enable to build a complex structure model layer by layer with 3D CAD software. However, a higher research cost makes it hardly carry out by a traditional methodology,

New Concept of Equivalent Inherent Strain for Measuring Axisymmetric Residual Stresses

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 1997
A new concept, the equivalent inherent strain gθeq, is proposed for measuring axisymmetric residual stresses, based on the inherent strain theory. gθeq is a parameter obtained by incorporating the radial inherent strain component into the tangential inherent strain component in computing the axially uniform axisymmetric residual stresses.
