Strain-rate dependence of mechanical characteristics of PLLA with different MW

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2023
Dynamic mechanical properties of polymers for biomedical applications are crucial parameters for development and engineering of new medical devices. Here, the time-dependent material behavior is a key factor for durability.

Immune Optimization of Double-Sided Welding Sequence for Medium-Small Assemblies in Ships Based on Inherent Strain Method

open access: yesMetals, 2022
The double-sided welding process is widely used in ship construction due to its high welding efficiency and forming quality. In order to further reduce the deformation caused by double-sided welding for medium-small assemblies in ships, the optimization ...

New Concept of Equivalent Inherent Strain for Measuring Axisymmetric Residual Stresses

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 1997
A new concept, the equivalent inherent strain gθeq, is proposed for measuring axisymmetric residual stresses, based on the inherent strain theory. gθeq is a parameter obtained by incorporating the radial inherent strain component into the tangential inherent strain component in computing the axially uniform axisymmetric residual stresses.

On the Structural Origin of the Catalytic Properties of Inherently Strained Ultrasmall Decahedral Gold Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2012
A new mechanism for reactivity of multiply twinned gold nanoparticles resulting from their inherently strained structure provides a further explanation of the surprising catalytic activity of small gold nanoparticles. Atomic defect structural studies of surface strains and quantitative analysis of atomic column displacements in the decahedral structure

Study of residual stresses and distortions from the Ti6Al4V based thin-walled geometries built using LPBF process

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2023
The current paper focuses on the prediction of residual stresses and distortions in the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) built Ti6Al4V thin-walled geometries using Ansys Additive Print (AAP) software which employs a layer-by-layer accumulation of inherent ...

The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The phenotypic characterization of yeast strains to stresses inherent to wine fermentation in warm climates [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology, 2016
Climate change is exerting an increasingly profound effect on grape composition, microbiology, chemistry and the sensory aspects of wine. Identification of autochthonous yeasts tolerant to stress could help to alleviate this effect.Tolerance to osmotic pressure, ethanol and pH of 94 Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains and 29 strains non-Saccharomyces from

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
