A Geometry-Based Welding Distortion Prediction Tool. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel), 2021
The prediction of welding distortion requires expertise in computer simulation programs, a clear definition of the nonlinear material properties, and mesh settings together with the nonlinear solution settings of a coupled thermal–structural analysis. The purpose of this paper is to present the validation of an automatic simulation tool implemented in ...

Effects of welding parameters on the angular distortion of welded steel plates

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2022
In a welding process, distortion is inevitable and causes a significant problem. Distortion could be minimized up to a specific limit by controlling the welding parameters.

Influence of welding sequence and external restraint on buckling distortion in thin-plate arc-welded joints

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Joining Processes, 2023
Buckling distortion as a troublesome engineering issue is easily generated in thin-plate arc-welded components (generally less than 4 mm in thickness).

Welding Distortion Characteristics of Door Openings According to Changing Shape of Stiffener [PDF]

open access: yes한국해양공학회지, 2019
Welding often results in welding distortion during the assembly process. The welding distortion of thin-plate structures such as the living quarters of ships and offshore installations is a more significant problem than in the case of thick-plate ...

Multi-Pass Welding Distortion Analysis Using Layered Shell Elements Based on Inherent Strain

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
In this article, a layered shell element-based, elastic finite element method for predicting welding distortion in multi-pass welding is developed. The welding distortion generated in each pass can be predicted by employing layer-by-layer equivalent ...

Influence of welding sequence on welding distortions in pipes [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 2008
This paper presents a three-dimensional thermo-mechanical analysis to investigate the effect of welding sequence on welding deformations in pipe-pipe joints of AISI stainless-steel type. Single-pass TIG welding with V-joint geometry in pipes having a diameter of 274 mm and a thickness of 6.2 mm is studied here.
