Distortion Prediction in Selective Laser Melting: Methodology for Inherent Strain Determination
One of the process variants in metal additive manufacturing (AM) is the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) where parts are built on a layer by layer basis. A focused power source is applied (laser or electron beam) to the powder material which is rapidly heated above its melting temperature and then allowed to solidify and cool down to form a new solid ...

Photo-induced copper-catalyzed sequential 1,n-HAT enabling the formation of cyclobutanols
Cyclobutanols are difficult structures to access given their inherent ring strain. Here, the authors present a method to form substituted cyclobutanols from a photocatalytic cascade reaction, proceeding via a 1,5- or 1,6-hydrogen atom transfer and ...

Determination of Inherent Strain Regions to Estimate Plate Deformation by Line Heating [PDF]
The inherent strain method is known to be very effective in predicting the plate deformation by line heating. Traditionally the inherent strain regions have been determined from the temperature distribution and the phase transformation regions(Ac3) of welding experiments.

Strain-relaxation and critical thickness of epitaxial La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 films
We report the thickness-dependent strain-relaxation behavior and the associated impacts upon the superconductivity in epitaxial La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 films grown on different substrates, which provide a range of strain.

Prediction of Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Elastic FEM Based on Inherent Strain
The welding residual stress and the distortion are considered to be produced by the inherent strain. The plastic strain in a bead welding computed through the thermal-elastic-plastic analysis is an ideal example of the inherent strain, since there is no glove which may introduce additional mismatch.

When three dimensional welding residual stresses are measured based on inherent strains using Finite Element Method, too many inherent strain components in elements have to be specified to express their distribution. If these are determined experimentally, measurements of elastic strains must be made for points more than the inherent strain components.
