New approach based on operational strain modal analysis to identify dynamical properties of the high-speed reciprocating operation mechanism

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2019
A high-speed reciprocating operating mechanism with fast running and frequent stopping produces a certain vibration due to inertia. The inherent vibration of this mechanism becomes a key factor affecting positioning accuracy and time.

Introduction of plasmid encoding for rare tRNAs reduces amplification bias in phage display biopanning

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2015
Amplification bias is a major hurdle in phage display protocols because it imparts additional, unintended selection pressure beyond binding to the desired target.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Laser powder bed fusion residual stresses: Measurement agreement, machine parity, and baseplate-driven heat-treatment response of 316L stainless steel

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Residual stresses were quantified in a 316 L stainless steel additive manufacturing benchmark arch to assess part-to-part and machine-to-machine variability and the influence of baseplate during stress-relief heat treatment.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Prediction of steel plate deformation due to triangle heating using the inherent strain method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In a shipyard, line heating and triangle heating are two major processes carried out by skilled workers to form curved plates in various shapes under various heating conditions.
