Biomimetic Nanovaccine Integrating Dendritic Cell Exosomes with Tumor Cell Membranes for Sustained Prophylaxis Against Glioblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We have developed DEX/GM, an all‐natural, personalizable hybrid vaccine designed by coating dendritic cell‐derived exosomes (DEX) onto tumor cell membranes (GM) for sustained prophylaxis against glioblastoma (GBM). ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM), one of the most aggressive and lethal brain tumors, remains incurable with a poor clinical prognosis.

Modulating effect of emotional arousal intensity on selective attention in schizophrenia

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
IntroductionThe interaction between attention and emotion is one of the key questions in schizophrenia, but the mechanisms of how emotional information affects selective attention in schizophrenia are still unclear.MethodsThe present study employed a cue-

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Inhibition of Return: Retinotopic, but Not Reflexive

open access: yesi-Perception, 2011
Inhibition of return (IOR) is the term used to describe slower responses to a recently cued location. IOR has long been claimed to be reflexive, although the question of whether it is predominantly a functional process in visual search or an artefact of ...

Presystemic influences on thirst, salt appetite, and vasopressin secretion in the hypovolemic rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Recent studies have shown that when dehydrated rats are given access to water or various concentrations of saline solution, they consume the same volume of fluid in an initial drinking bout (Hoffmann et al., 2006). Furthermore, there was a close relation

Shaping of Biohybrid Functional Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a strategy for shaping living mycelium into functional materials by directing its natural growth. Nanoparticles armor hyphae, micron‐scale particles entangle within the network, and printed hydrogel architectures steer expansion, creating defined geometries.
