Influence of Initial Geometric Imperfections on the Vibrations and Dynamic Stability of Elastic Shells

International Applied Mechanics, 2004
The results from studies into the vibrations and dynamic stability of thin elastic shells with initial geometric imperfections are analyzed. The corresponding dynamic problems are solved in both linear and nonlinear formulations. The influence of initial axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric deflections on natural, forced, parametrically excited, and self ...

Effects of Initial Geometric Imperfection on Stability of Single-Layer Reticulated Shell

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The stability of reticulated shell is a key issue for single-layer reticulated shell. In the paper, a single-layer arch-supported shell structure was analyzed by finite element software MIDAS. The eigenvalue buckling analysis and the geometric nonlinear overall stability analysis with initial imperfection of the model which carried two different load ...

Collapse of semi-rigidly jointed reticulated domes with initial geometric imperfections

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1998
Abstract Buckling collapse and its analytical method of steel reticulated domes with semi-rigid ball joints are discussed, on the basis of a nonlinear elastic–plastic hinge analysis formulated for three-dimensional beam-columns with elastic perfectly plastic hinges located at both ends and the mid-span for each member.

The derivation of the stresses in a pressurised pipe or cylindrical vessel with initial geometric imperfections

Strain, 1988
Several analytical methods are outlined to deal with the title problem when the vessel is free of external constraints. In essence these correspond to the Haigh equation, which provides a nonlinear relationship between the induced circumferential stress and the applied internal pressure.
