Analysis of initial geometric imperfections in transmission tower structures

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract To clarify the influence of initial defects on transmission tower structures, this study proposes a computational methodology for quantifying initial defects in transmission tower systems, termed the Direct Defect Analysis Method (DDAM).

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Nonlocal postbuckling analysis of graphene sheets with initial imperfection based on first order shear deformation theory

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
In this paper, the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is used to investigate the postbuckling behavior of orthotropic single-layered graphene sheet (SLGS) under in-plane loadings.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Flutter Measurement of a Linear Turbine Blade Cascade with an Angular Position Deviation of One Blade

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Engineering, 2023
Experimental flutter testing of high-aspect ratio rotor blades is a mainstay of turbomachinery research. However, rotor blades are never identical, and geometrical errors between actual and nominal geometries exist due to limited machining precision or ...

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Imperfection Sensitivity Of Non-triangulated Cylindrical Shell Configurations [PDF]

open access: yes
Non-triangulated lattice shells are rarely adopted for large structures due to their lower resistance and stability compared to triangulated shells. As a result, only a few studies are available for the stability evaluation of non-triangulated shell ...

Study on Restoring Force Model of Cold-Formed Thin-Walled Steel Lipped Channel Beam-Columns under Cyclic Load

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
In order to study the hysteretic behavior and restoring force model of cold-formed thin-walled steel (CFTWS) lipped channel beam-column, a finite element analysis (FEA) model considering the material and geometric nonlinearity and the influence of the ...

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...
