Parametric study of the structural and in-plane buckling analysis of ogee arches

open access: yesHBRC Journal, 2014
As part of a pilot project an ogee arch is being studied as a self-supporting skin skylight for the Housing and Building National Research Center’s (HBRC) patio. The ogee arch consists of a pair of two tangential circular arcs making an arch shape.

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Influence of Imperfections on Axial Buckling Load of Composite Cylindrical Shells

open access: yes, 2013
There is a strong requirement for more robust, lighter and cheaper launch vehicle structures. Unstiffened composite cylindrical shells, which are essential to the fabrication of launch vehicle airframes, are prone to buckling and are highly sensitive to ...

Burst Strength Analysis of Casing with Geometrical Imperfections

open access: yes, 2007
The research presented advances the understanding of the accurate prediction of burst strength in the drill casings used in the offshore oil and gas industry. The derived predictive equations involve a Limit-State-Design methodology, a methodology common

Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Thermo-mechanical stability of FRP and FGM plates with geometrical imperfections using layer wise finite element [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
One of the ultimate limit state important for the safe design of structures is failure due to buckling. The origin of buckling, as the sudden change in shape of structural component, may arise from mechanical as well from thermal loading conditions ...
