Initial Imperfections in Biaxial Bending

Journal of the Structural Division, 1966
A mathematical model for computing the elastic deformational response of biaxially loaded columns of thin-walled open cross section is derived. The influence of residual stress and small initial deflections and twist are included in this model. The exact solution for this mathematical model is given. Several numerical examples are presented.

Effect of Initial Imperfections on the Flexural Eigenvibrations of Cylindrical Shells

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2001
The effect of small initial deviations from the ideal circular shape of a shell on the frequencies and modes of flexural eigenvibrations is studied with the use of the linear theory of thin shallow shells. It is assumed that the initial deviations are responsible for interaction between flexural and radial vibrations of the shell.

Lateral Stability of Beams with Initial Imperfections

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1983
The design of large flat-roof systems necessitates a means of analyzing the required strength of bracing members. If the braced beam is initially perfectly straight, it will remain straight until it buckles; the prebuckling stresses in the braces are theoretically zero. If the braced beam has initial imperfections, they will grow under load and so will

The Effect of Initial Imperfections on Shell Stability

2002
The development of “DISDECO”, the Delft Interactive Shell DEsign COde is described. The purpose of this project is to make the accumulated theoretical, numerical and practical knowledge of the last 20 years readily accessible to users interested in the analysis of buckling of sensitive structures.

Effect of Initial Imperfections on Dynamic Buckling of Shells

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989
A thin aluminum cylindrical shell was subjected to an impulsive halfcosine external load applied with explosives. The observed response consisted of an initial dynamic pulse buckling followed by large inward displacements of the loaded side of the shell, Accurate calculation of this response was obtained with a finite element algorithm using a ...

Reliability of framed structures with initial imperfections

Computers & Structures, 1987
Abstract A method is proposed for determining the reliability of inelastic framed structures with initial imperfections. Structures with deterministic initial imperfections and material properties are analyzed by a previously proposed nonlinear structural analysis method to find the limit state functions in load space.

Computation of Critical Initial Imperfection of Truss Structures

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1990
A method for computing the critical (worst) initial imperfection of elastic truss structures is presented, on the basis of a previous work of the writers. This method can deal with initial imperfections of various properties, including loading pattern vectors, nodal initial position vectors, initial member length, and the product of Young's modulus and

Robustness of Imperfect Initialization in Quantum Parameter Estimation

2020 39th Chinese Control Conference (CCC), 2020
One of the most concerned problems in quantum metrology is exploiting quantum resources to increase the precision of quantum parameter estimation. One natural and standard way of improving the precision of estimation is letting the initial probe state being optimal.

Axial Impact Buckling of a Column With Random Initial Imperfections

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1978
Axial impact buckling of perfectly elastic bars with initial imperfections is considered in a probabilistic setting. It is assumed that the initial imperfection function involved a single parameter, which in turn is a continuous random variable with given probability distribution function.

Sensitivity of semi-rigid frames to initial imperfections

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1991
Abstract The effects of imperfections are presented for the limit state concept design philosophy of structural steel buildings with flexible beam-column connections. The sensitivity of calibrating frames with four types of connections was tested on a second-order elastic in-plane model with semirigid connections expressed as a second-order ...
