TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Predicting Future Performance in Powerlifting: A Machine Learning Approach

open access: yesSports Medicine - Open
Background Powerlifting is a discipline in which athletes aim to lift the maximum weight in 3 exercises: Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift. Since the introduction of “Classic” powerlifting by the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) in 2012, there ...

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Optimized Hydrodynamic Design for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

open access: yesMachines
In this study, the drag coefficient and lift-to-drag ratio variation with angle of attack and velocity are analyzed by numerical simulation of the hydrodynamics of the initial shape of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV).

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Partial Oscillation Flow Control on Airfoil at Low Reynolds Numbers

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Among the critical factors contributing to the decline in the aerodynamic performance of near-space aircraft under low Reynolds number conditions, a significant one lies in the occurrence of laminar separation bubbles forming on the wings.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Learning from Mistakes: Improving Initial Fingertip Force Scaling by Observing Lifting Errors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
• When lifting objects that are lighter or heaver than we expect them to be, individuals typically misapply forces in a way that reflects their prior expectations of heaviness. • Because we lift in this predictive way, large and small cubes elicit these characteristic errors even when they are adjusted to have equal mass.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
