Initial Orbit Determination Using Simplex Fusion

2020 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2020
A new Initial Orbit Determination (IOD) method for angles-only observations is presented. This method is based on an adaptive Nelder-Mead simplex optimization technique for fusion of multiple observations from one or more acquisition satellites. The resulting solution characterizes the target orbit as a standard state vector.

Initial Orbit Determination Utilizing Solution Group Optimization

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2020
This paper investigates the use of space-based tracking data to determine the initial orbit of low-earth orbit (LEO) target satellites. A series of tracking data without distance information of a LEO target satellite can be provided by a space-based imaging observer and a target detection process. First, Gauss’ method is applied to a series of a target

Statistical initial orbit determination

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1992
For the ballistic missile initial orbit determination problem in particular, the concept of 'launch folders' is extended. This allows to decouple the observational data from the initial orbit determination problem per se. The observational data is only used to select among the possible orbital element sets in the group of folders.

Initial orbit determination using multiple observations

Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy, 2010
A novel approach for initial orbit determination based on multiple angles-only observations is presented. The proposed technique is iterative and uses Lagrangian coefficients, f and g. The proposed method does not show singularity for the coplanar cases.

Bearings-Only Initial Relative Orbit Determination

Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 2015
A method for performing bearings-only initial relative orbit determination of a nearby space object in the absence of any information regarding the space object’s geometry and relative orbit is presented. To resolve the range ambiguity characteristic of a single optical sensor system, a second optical sensor is included at a known baseline distance on ...
