An initial value problem for a functional equation

open access: yesAequationes Mathematicae, 1979
We consider the functional equationf(A(x,y))=B(f(x),f(y)), whereA andB are averages. It is known that such a functional equation has exactly one continuous solution satisfying a given two-point condition. By analogy with the theory of differential equations, we may regard the functional equation, together with a two-point condition, as a boundary value

Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

A Q‐Learning Algorithm to Solve the Two‐Player Zero‐Sum Game Problem for Nonlinear Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 566-581, March 2025.
A Q‐learning algorithm to solve the two‐player zero‐sum game problem for nonlinear systems. ABSTRACT This paper deals with the two‐player zero‐sum game problem, which is a bounded L2$$ {L}_2 $$‐gain robust control problem. Finding an analytical solution to the complex Hamilton‐Jacobi‐Issacs (HJI) equation is a challenging task.

Neural Network Adaptive Control With Long Short‐Term Memory

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we propose a novel adaptive control architecture that provides dramatically better transient response performance compared to conventional adaptive control methods. This is accomplished by the synergistic employment of a traditional adaptive neural network (ANN) controller and a long short‐term memory (LSTM) network.

A hyperbolic problem with nonlinear second-order boundary damping

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 1998
The initial boundary value problem for the wave equation with nonlinear second-order dissipative boundary conditions is considered. Existence and uniqueness of global generalized solutions are proved.

Mixed Initial-Boundary Value Problem for the Capillary Wave Equation

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2016
We study the mixed initial-boundary value problem for the capillary wave equation: iut+u2u=∂x3/2u,  t>0,  x>0;  u(x,0)=u0(x),  x>0; u(0,t)+βux(0,t)=h(t),  t>0, where ∂x3/2u=(1/2π)∫0∞sign⁡x-y/x-yuyy(y) dy.

Symmetry analysis of initial-value problems

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2005
Generally speaking, the imposition of the full statement of a differential equation diminishes the number of Lie symmetries it possesses. Oftentimes this is to the extent of removing all Lie point symmetries and so the possibility of finding a route to the solution of differential equation using point symmetries.
