The water absorption sorptivity of brick ceramic falls as the initial water content rises. New results and reanalysed literature data are in agreement with unsaturated flow theory. The approximate formulae of Philip (1957) and of Brutsaert (1976) are compared with experimental data, establishing the value of the Brutsaert formulae.
