Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Admiralty: Rights of Contribution and Exoneration Established Between Coextensive Maintenance and Cure Obligors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Emphasizing the extent of equity discretion available to admiralty courts, the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that maintenance and cure expenses resulting from a seaman\u27s recurring injury should be borne equally by the obligor liable ...

Revisiting Mission‐Oriented Cancer Research to tackle the increasing burden of cancer in Europe–a policy perspective

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Translational cancer research and its implementation through competitively selected Comprehensive Cancer Centers across Europe should be the primary policy focus for addressing the increasing cancer burden in Europe and counteract the present main strategy to convert cancer to a chronic disease.

Baseline level of interleukin-6 is associated with the risk of acute coronary syndrome development in SARS-CoV‐2 infection

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is frequently reported in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Cytokine storm induced by interleukin-6 (IL-6) has been suggested to potentially cause myocardial injury in COVID-19.

Social autopsy for maternal and perinatal deaths in Bangladesh: a tool for community dialog and decision making

open access: yesPublic Health Reviews, 2018
Bangladesh has an established comprehensive death review system for tracking and reviewing maternal and perinatal deaths. This death review system, established in 2010, was initially known as the “Maternal and Perinatal Death Review (MPDR) System.” One ...

Racial disparities in pedestrian-related injury hospitalizations in the United States

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2020
Background Racial/ethnic disparity has been documented in a wide variety of health outcomes, and environmental components are contributors. For example, food deserts have been tied to obesity rates.

Exploring the Production of Extracellular Matrix by Astrocytes in Response to Mimetic Traumatic Brain Injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Following injury to the central nervous system, extracellular modulations are apparent at the site of injury, often resulting in a glial scar. Astrocytes are mechanosensitive cells, which can create a neuroinhibitory extracellular environment in response

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.
