Abstract Ports are vital to the functioning of the Internal Market and the economic strength of the European Union. The European Union is dependent on its ports to facilitate trade, not just internationally, but also between Member States themselves; in fact, 75 per cent of vessels in EU ports are making intra-EU journeys.
