Inlet Distortion Studies on a Centrifugal Compressor

ASME 2023 Gas Turbine India Conference, 2023
Abstract Centrifugal compressors can be subjected to non-uniformity in inlet flows due to complicated inlet pipe geometries arising from space constraints and the wakes of protruding instrumentation, impacting the compressor’s performance. Inlet distortion can cause premature stall initiation and surge, effectively reducing the operating

TJ100 inlet distortion testing

International Conference on Military Technologies (ICMT) 2015, 2015
This paper describes the measurement of total pressure distortion of the TJ100 engine inlet and its influence on engine operation. The pressure distortion was generated by a specially designed distortion screen. Measurement was performed at different engine speeds.

Inlet Flow Distortion in Turbomachinery

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1980
A single stage axial compressor with distorted inflow is studied. The inflow distortion occurs far upstream and may be a distortion in stagnation temperature, stagnation pressure or both. The blade rows are modelled as semi-actuator disks. Losses, quasi-steady deviation angles, and reference incidence correlations are included in the analysis.

The Effect of Lipskin Damage on Inlet Distortion

48th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting Including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2010
Damage to the lipskin of an engine nacelle can have a significant impact on engine performance and safety, especially in combination with other sources of inlet flow distortion. While the degradation of performance in aircraft propulsion systems as a result of inlet distortion has been well-studied, the impact of lipskin damage upon inlet distortion ...
