Innovation and firm performance [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, the current state of knowledge regarding the relation between innovation and firm performance is reviewed. The relationship is empirically tested. There is a special focus on small and medium-sized firms.

Molecular cancer prevention: Intercepting disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Oncological practice must evolve, from treating established tumours to proactive cancer interception before clinical manifestation. This will require mechanistic insight into tumour initiation, validated biomarkers of early disease development and redesigned clinical trials, enabling cancer interception to become a core pillar of oncology with the ...

In-depth exploration and initial clinical practice of the ratio of endoscope-sheath diameter theory: smaller flexible ureteroscope with smaller ureteral access sheath

open access: yesBMC Urology
Objectives To assess the outcomes of combining a 7.5Fr flexible ureteroscope (fURS) with a 10/12F ureteral access sheath (UAS) through a comprehensive in vitro and in vivo evalu-ation. Methods We conducted a comparative analysis, evaluating the impact of

Vortex-type elastic structured media and dynamic shielding

open access: yes, 2012
The paper addresses a novel model of metamaterial structure. A system of spinners has been embedded into a two-dimensional periodic lattice system. The equations of motion of spinners are used to derive the expression for the chiral term in the equations

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Innovative Photovoltaic Cooling System

open access: yesInvention Disclosure
With the ever-increasing adoption of solar energy and the lack of space for PV installations, targeting maximum photovoltaic operational efficiencies has become essential. One of the key challenges faced by PV installations in warm climates is thermal management, which is caused by increasing temperatures due to PV conversion inefficiencies and limited

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Optimization of Wheelchair Control via Multi-Modal Integration: Combining Webcam and EEG

open access: yesFuture Internet
Even though Electric Powered Wheelchairs (EPWs) are a useful tool for meeting the needs of people with disabilities, some disabled people find it difficult to use regular EPWs that are joystick-controlled.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Ultra-Wide Swath SAR Imaging With Continuous PRF Variation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Innovative multi-channel synthetic aperture radar (SAR) concepts enable high-resolution wide-swath imaging, but the antenna length typically restricts the achievable swath width.
