Sympathetic inrush currents in transformer energisation
Power transformers are critical components of the electricity networks. It is common knowledge that transformer energisation causes a number of slow-front inrush current transient problems. With the increase of distributed generations with inherent high intermittency resulting in more switching events, the transformers in service are increasingly ...

Fault blocking converters for HVDC transmission : a transient behaviour comparison [PDF]
A thorough comparison of the transient behaviours of two state-of-the-art converters suitable for HVDC transmission is presented. The Alternate Arm and Mixed-Cell Modular Multilevel Converter topologies both have DC fault blocking capability and are ...

Research of a New Criterion of Main Protection of Transformer
In view of problems that traditional main protection of transformer cannot identify inrush current and internal fault current of transformer, the paper proposed a new criterion of main protection of transformer based on dead angle of differential current.

Impacts of ferroresonance and inrush current forces on transformer windings
Deformation of the windings is one of the main causes of the power transformers failure. Here, for the first time, the electromagnetic forces exerted on the windings are computed in ferroresonance condition and compared with that of the inrush current ...

Efficient resonant-type transformer inrush current limiter
This study presents a new structure of a solid-state inrush current limiter (SSICL) to mitigate the inrush current of transformers. The proposed SSICL has a series-parallel resonant structure that is formed by two resonant circuits tuned at the supply frequency.

Novel Techniques to Reduce Transformer Inrush Current Using EMTP Software
Transformer inrush current is a high-amplitude, non-sinusoidal transient that occurs during initial energization, leading to voltage dips, power quality degradation, and relay misoperations.

Calculation Of Magnetizing Inrush Current In Transformer
When transformer is energized its current reaches very high value generally approximately 10 to 20 times greater than its rated current. This paper deals with study of calculation of inrush current in transformer. Different methods are available to calculate inrush current in transformer.
